The Power of Loving Yourself

The Power of Loving Yourself
Posted on Feb. 15th, 2025

As February unfolds and hearts turn to thoughts of love, I find myself reflecting on one of the most profound truths I’ve ever encountered: We love others best when we first learn to love ourselves.

For years, I poured my energy into caring for and serving others, believing that was the key to being a good friend, coach, and leader. But one morning, I woke up with a startling realization—I wasn’t doing a great job loving myself. And if that was true, how well was I really loving others? Were they experiencing the best of me, or just the exhausted, self-critical version I had come to accept as normal?

That moment of awakening led me to a deeper understanding of a familiar scripture: "Love your neighbor as yourself." (Mark 12:31)

We often focus on the command to love our neighbor, but what about the second part—as yourself? The original intent behind this phrase wasn’t just about selfless giving, but about recognizing our own worth. It suggests that how we treat ourselves directly influences how we treat those around us. If we are hard on ourselves, neglecting our needs and well-being, how can we offer genuine, abundant love to others?

Self-Love Is Not Selfish

Loving yourself isn’t about ego or selfishness—it’s about honoring your own heart so you can show up with more patience, compassion, and joy for the people in your life. When you make space for self-care and self-acceptance, you create a stronger foundation for meaningful connections with others.

This month, I invite you to cultivate self-love in simple but powerful ways:

Speak kindly to yourself—your words matter. Replace self-criticism with encouragement.
Prioritize rest and renewal—you can’t pour from an empty cup.
Celebrate progress, not just perfection—you are a work of art in motion.

You Are Worthy

If reading this has made you aware that you struggle with self-love, I want you to know that you are not alone. Learning to truly love and value yourself is a journey, and sometimes, we need guidance and support along the way.

If you’re ready to explore what self-love could look like for you, let’s connect. I’d love to schedule a discovery call to see if coaching might be a good fit. Together, we can work through the beliefs and patterns that may be keeping you from embracing your worth and experiencing the fullness of love in your life.

💛 You are worthy. You are enough. And you deserve to believe it. 💛
